CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman County Animal Shelter volunteer Donna Ruttkay shares The Cullman Tribune’s Pet of the Week.

Houla is a 1-year-old lab/hound/Catahoula mix.  He’s a laid-back, low- to medium-energy pet who prefers to stretch out for a nice nap even while his kennel mates are scurrying around.  He’s a submissive dog who knows how to walk on a leash, and he’s got the makings of an excellent reading, emotional support, therapy, companion or hiking friend.

Animal shelter staff and volunteers work with their dogs to make sure they are accustomed to being around people, walking on a leash and practicing good behavior.  Several of the shelter’s dogs have even been “hired” to work as therapy and special needs service dogs.

Ruttkay said of Houla in particular: “He would make a wonderful addition to a therapy team: going into hospitals, assisted living, etc., as he has lots of common sense!”

Houla’s adoption fee is $90 which includes: DHLPP vaccine, Bordetella vaccines, rabies vaccine, wormer, general exam at the vet, neutering, microchip, free 30-day health insurance policy issued by 24PetWatch (with valid email only) and a free bag of food from Cullman Pet Depot (you must pay sales tax).

Please consider adopting to give a rescued pet a chance at a happy and healthy life.
