UPDATE: The man who stole a Cullman Police vehicle early Tuesday morning has been found and is in custody, according to Cullman Police Chief Kenny Culpepper.

Sgt. Chris Thomason said the suspect, Jackie Lee Walker, 22, was found behind a residence in the 1800 block of Woodland Street Northwest, off of St. Joseph Drive Northwest.

“Some neighbors actually called after seeing someone walking through yards,” said Thomason.

Thomason said Walker was still handcuffed, with his hands in front of him, and was holding socks in a manner that would conceal the handcuffs.

It is unknown at this time what charges Walker is facing.

CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman Police are searching for a man who stole a police vehicle Tuesday morning. The vehicle has been recovered.

The suspect, Jackie Lee Walker, 22, is a white male, last seen wearing a blue hoodie, blue jeans and handcuffs.

Cullman Police Chief Kenny Culpepper said, “We got the report that the guy was shoplifting (at Wal-Mart on Alabama Highway 157). He (the police officer) got there and they said he’s already left. He (the police officer) went down St. Joseph and saw somebody walking, detained him, put him back in the car, took him back.”

Culpepper said Walker was in the back seat handcuffed when the officer got out to discuss the shoplifting incident with Wal-Mart Loss Prevention personnel. He said Walker stepped through the handcuffs, which were behind his back, worked his way through the small space in the divider between the front and back seats of the vehicle and took off.
