CULLMAN, Ala. – It was a special day for 11-year-old Cullman County Child Development Center student Blakeley Richards. After growing it out for two years, Richards had her hair cut Tuesday afternoon to be donated and used to make wigs for children with leukemia through the Hugs-U-Wear program, a part of the Childhood Leukemia Foundation.

Blakeley’s mother Laina Fine and grandmother Lisa Nelson brought her to the salon where Misty Fletcher washed and cut her hair. All the family members have been customers of Misty’s for years, and about a year ago, they began researching places to donate hair that didn’t charge patients for wigs, leading them to the Hugs-U-Wear program.

Fine was excited that they were able to find an organization that they love supporting and the whole family, along with Fletcher, hopes that Blakeley’s act of kindness will inspire others in the community to get involved as well.

For more information on the program and other ways to donate, visit the foundation’s website at https://www.clf4kids.org.
