UPDATE 3/28/19 at 12:06 p.m.: The roadway is now open.
FAIRVIEW, Ala. – Alabama Highway 69 has been shut down in Fairview between the Dollar General and Chesley Oaks Golf Course due to a cut gas main. Officials say there is no danger to area residents.
According to Cullman Emergency Management Agency (EMA) Director Phyllis Little, "A contractor cut a 4-inch gas line. Highway 69 is blocked from the Dollar General to around the golf course so traffic has to go around. Wesley Avenue is blocked."
Little said Cullman-Jefferson Gas is on the scene.
"They have the line crimped, and it is slowed down, but they're going to have to dig it up," she said.
Area business have been evacuated, including The Hutch Restaurant, Fairview Quick Stop and Dollar General.
"Everything is under control," said Little. "There is no danger to residents."
Little said EMA Assistant Director Scott McDonald is on the scene, along with the Fairview Volunteer Fire Department.
Little said the timeframe for the line to be repaired is unknown.
