LOCUST FORK, Ala. – The Hanceville Bulldogs were on the road Monday night for a matchup with the Locust Fork Hornets and Mark Dyer had one of the best nights of his career on the mound. Dyer tossed all seven innings for the Bulldogs and kept the Hornets scoreless the whole way, allowing just two hits and racking up 14 strikeouts in the win.
After two scoreless, innings Hanceville took over with a 5-run third inning. An RBI single from Isaac Holmes made it 1-0 and Matthew Cornelius followed with a another single that made it 2-0. Adam Cooper drove in two more runs with a base hit into center field and an RBI single off the bat of TJ Kubia gave the Bulldogs a 5-0 advantage going into the bottom of the third.
Another run crossed the plate for Hanceville on an error in the top of the fifth and an RBI double from Dyer extended the lead to 7-0. Tate Brown doubled in the sixth inning to drive in another run and make it 8-0 and two RBI doubles from Dyer and Holmes in the top of the seventh sealed the 10-0 victory for the Bulldogs.
Dyer (three hits), Cooper (two hits) and Holmes (two hits) each drove in a pair of runs in the win for Hanceville.
Florence 4 – Cullman 2 (baseball)
The Bearcats were on the road against Florence Monday night and couldn’t get enough going offensively to overcome the Falcons. Blake Lambert got the start on the mound for Cullman and held Florence scoreless for the first two innings, but the Falcons plated two runs in the third and fourth to knock off the Bearcats.
Brennen Norton and Peyton Colvard recorded the only two hits of the night for Cullman. Brady Patterson finished with one RBI.
Holly Pond 12 – Fairview 4 (softball)
The Lady Broncos jumped ahead early in this one by plating five runs in the top of the second and putting Fairview in a deep hole almost immediately. The Lady Aggies scored three in the bottom of the fourth, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Holly Pond who pulled away to win it 12-4 on the road.
Madison Heatherly collected three hits, two RBIs and a homerun in the win for the Lady Broncos. Madyson Rickman put one over the fence for Holly Pond as well and Taylor Simmons and Kylie Ann Perkins each drove in two runs of their own.
Katie Ball led Fairview with three hits and an RBI in the loss.
Good Hope 11 – Curry 1 (softball)
The Lady Raiders took the drama out of this one early by bringing two runs across in the first and five more in the second to put the game out of reach for Curry almost immediately. Sidnie English got the start for Good Hope and tossed a complete game, allowing just one run on four hits and picking up a pair of strikeouts.
Angelina Flanigan (two RBIs) and Morgan Goodwin each had three hits for the Lady Raiders and Skylar Tucker racked up a team-high four RBIs in the win.
JB Pennington 7 – Hanceville 0 (softball)
The Lady Bulldogs dropped a road matchup with JB Pennington Monday night in a game where they only recorded a pair of hits, both coming off the bat of Isabella Elliott. Peyton Embrey got the start on the mound for Hanceville and tossed a complete game, allowing just seven hits in the loss.
Etowah 3 – Cullman 2 (softball)
The Lady Bearcats took a 1-0 lead in the opening frame and stretched to 2-0 in the third, but Etowah scored three unanswered runs to edge out Cullman.
Savannah Davis (two RBIs) and Alex Stansell each collected two hits for the Lady Bearcats in the loss.
Meek 7 – Lynn 5 (softball)
Lynn managed to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the third, but Meek answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third and five more in the bottom of the fourth to pull away from the Lady Bears.
Emma Fincher led the Lady Tigers with two hits and Savannah Smith and LaKota Alden each collected an RBI in the win.
Falkville Tournament (Saturday) –
The Hanceville Lady Bulldogs finished 2-2 at the Falkville Tournament over the weekend, defeating Southeastern 7-1 and Cherokee 8-3 but falling twice to Lexington 15-0 and 4-0. Hanceville collected 10 hits in both of its wins, but Cassidy Campbell collected the only hit of the game in the Lady Bulldogs’ 15-0 loss to Lexington. Campbell was on the mound for the second game against Lexington and allowed just one hit in the first four innings but couldn’t keep them at bay any longer and Hanceville fell 4-0. Campbell, Brittney Dearing and Isabella Elliott recorded the only hits of the game for the Lady Bulldogs.
