ADDISON, Ala. – The Bulldogs hosted Lindsay Lane Christian Christian Academy Friday night looking to improve to 3-1, but they lost a late lead and wound up falling in extra innings to the Lions 9-6.
After a scoreless first inning, Addison found the run column in the bottom of the second. Three straight walks loaded up the bases with two outs for Jorge Smith, who drew another walk to bring home the first run of the game. Gage Gilliland then lined a two-run double to center field to make it a 3-0 score. The Lions cut it to 3-1 on an RBI single in the top of the third, but Addison added another run in their half on a Ty Tuggle one-out RBI double. Lindsay Lane scored on a passed ball in the fourth to make it a 4-2 game.
Addison reached on back-to-back errors and then a walk loaded the bases for Colton Tyree, who ended up getting hit by a pitch to force home a run to push their lead back to three, but the Lions cut it to 5-4 by scoring on an error and stealing home. Gilliland scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the sixth to stretch the lead to 6-4.
Lindsay Lane tied the game up at six on a two-run single to send the game into extra innings and unfortunately for the Bulldogs, it was all Lions in the eighth. Lindsay Lane scored three times in the eighth on an RBI single and a two-run double and even though the Bulldogs got something going to start out their half of the inning, they couldn't sustain it and wound up falling 9-6.
Gilliland finished with two hits, two RBIs, and he scored a run for Addison (2-2). Tuggle added a hit and an RBI, while Smith (one run scored) and Tyree each finished with an RBI. Jesse Brock and Hayden each collected a hit. The Bulldogs will try to bounce back when they travel to Vinemont next Thursday.
