BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the first time since 2009, the Cold Springs Lady Eagles are back in the AHSAA State Championship Game. Head Coach Tammy West has been in this game before and she’ll be going for her fourth title with the Lady Eagles.

Cold Springs took on G.W. Long in the state semi-final game on Monday with a chance to move on to the Class 2A state championship game and the Lady Eagles leaned on defense, some timely threes, and great free-throw shooting to take the game 52-36. They will take on Fyffe, who defeated R.C. Hatch 41-39 Monday night, Friday morning at 9 a.m.

Cold Springs forced 18 turnovers and scored 18 points off of those turnovers in the final four round. They held G.W. Long to just 28% shooting from the field and 28% from behind the three-point line. With the Lady Eagles clinging to a 15-12 lead, huge threes by Neely Ellison and Kinley Campbell made it 21-12 and Campbell made it 25-13 at the half with a jumper just before the buzzer. Those baskets helped Cold Springs really begin to pull away.

Cold Springs widened the lead to 34-16 in third with three-pointers by Camryn Crider, Campbell and Ellison. Elizabeth Hill and Crider scored all of the fourth quarter points for the Lady Eagles, with the majority of them coming at the free throw line, and they were able to take the game 52-36. Cold Springs will look for its first state championship since 2009 on Friday morning against Fyffe.

The Lady Red Devils come into the game with a 30-5 mark and have held almost all of their opponents below 50 points this season. The Lady Eagles will no doubt be tested once more, but with the state championship up for grabs, they will do whatever it takes to bring home the title for Class 2A.

The deadly three-point shooting of Cold Springs, led by Crider, Hill, Ellison and Campbell to name a few, plus free-throw shooting, an inside game and limiting their turnovers has helped the Lady Eagles win 27 games. They will look to do more of the same to win number 28 and their first title since 2009 on Friday.
