CULLMAN – For the eighth year, the Castille Character Camp will be held in Cullman at Heritage Park. The camp, which is mainly for football, will run from June 5-6, and thanks to the sponsorship of community members, the camp is free for youth in grades 1-12 to attend. Former Auburn and Alabama football players, along with former coaches, lead the Character Camp.

This year Olympic Gold Medalist Willie Smith will be running the agility portion of the outing.
Smith was a member of the United States relay team that won gold at the 1984 Olympics. The leader of the camp, Jeremiah Castille, has a ‘Character Corner’ that T.J. Franey, someone who has been a part of the Character Camp since its inception, says is very important for the program.
"The Character Corner allows Jeremiah and the other speakers an opportunity to emphasize integrity and impact the students and youth in a positive way,” said Franey. The camp will begin on June 5 at 5:30 p.m. in Heritage Park and will conclude for the day at 7:30 p.m.
The next day on June 6, the camp will be from 8:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., with a final event at 6 p.m. at St. John’s Evangelical Church. At this event there will be a guest speaker as well as a musical guest. The event at St. John’s Church is also free to attend.
Because lunch is provided for free at the Character Camp, it is important for those running the camp to know how many lunches will be needed beforehand.
