CULLMAN – Students from the Cullman community are preparing to showcase their talents to benefit nursery and pediatric care at Cullman Regional. The 2019 Bownes Memorial For Kids’ Sake Variety Show will take place on Sunday, Feb. 10 at 4 p.m. in the Betty Leeth Haynes Theatre at Wallace State.

The program celebrates the variety of talent among the youth in our area.  The variety show will feature musical and theatrical performances from more than 80 children.

The event was started in 1993 by the late Dr. Eugene Bownes, one of Cullman’s most beloved pediatricians. The program allows the Cullman Regional Foundation to purchase special items for the hospital to help care for infants and pediatric patients.  Proceeds from the event have purchased a variety of patient-care items over the years.

Engaging the students in the show allows them to be exposed to a philanthropic event at a tender age.  Through their participation they will give back to help advance health care services. The participants make donations at the time of their auditions, sell tickets and sell sponsorships for the show.

The 2019 Bownes Memorial For Kids’ Sake Variety Show promises to deliver a wide range of talents from solo and ensemble dance performances to vocal and instrumental performances. Tickets may be purchased in the Cullman Regional Foundation office- $10 in advance and $15 the day of the program.

“We are excited to once again host the variety show giving students the opportunity to showcase their talents,” said Shirley Quattlebaum, For Kids’ Sake Chair. “We encourage the community to take part and show your support for this cause benefiting the nursery and pediatric care at Cullman Regional.”
