Obituary: Maythel Inez Winkles

Maythel Inez Winkles, 75, of Double Springs, entered into rest on January 10, 2019 at North Alabama Medical Center in Florence, Alabama.

Maythel was born on June 15, 1943 in Double Springs, Alabama. She worked as Assistant Postmaster at the Post Office in Grayson, Alabama and worked at Kinro Ind. for a number of years. Maythel was a loving and devoted wife and loved her family very much. She enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding her tractor on the farm while listening to country music, watching hummingbirds, and visiting with friends. In her younger days she played softball, and in one game managed to pitch a no hitter. Maythel was also known by the nick names “May-May” or Nay-Nay” to her family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2019 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Nichols Funeral Home Chapel in Double Springs, Alabama, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Brother Bill Frank Wilson and Brother Randy Jones will officiate. Burial will follow in New Home Baptist Church Cemetery in Houston, Alabama.

Maythel is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, John Elmer Winkles; brother-in-law, R.J. Winkles and his wife Julie; sister-in-law, Judy Garcia and her husband Ralph; nephews, Cody Gene Winkles and his fiancee’ Alivia McKinnon, John (Tammy) Garcia, John Robert Garcia, Tanner Edward Garcia; nieces, Sophia Garcia, and Angie (Randy) Jones; great nephew, Justin (Kayla) Jones and family; great niece, Justine (Sam) Bridgeman and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Irving “Pap” Tidwell and Eunice Page Tidwell McCafferty; infant brother, Quinton Tidwell; sister, Shirley F. Tidwell Ayers; brother-in-law, E.J. Ayers; nephew, Anthony “Tony” Jay Ayers; and grandparents, Zeff and Ada Garrison Page.
