CULLMAN – Since the beginning of  2018, the Cullman County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) Litter Crew has collected 51,527 pounds of trash from 185 miles of Cullman County roadways, according to a media release from the department. Also collected were 2,389 pounds of aluminum cans, which the CCSO said was recycled for $1,329.04. That money was donated to Cullman Caring for Kids.

On Nov. 7, at the Alabama People Against a Littered State (PALS) Governor’s Awards program, the CCSO and Sheriff Matt Gentry won the Governor’s Award for Law Enforcement for its dedication to picking up litter on Cullman County roads.

"The litter crew has done a great job helping clean up our roads. They find everything from tires, nails, to paper sacks. Deputy Ron Wood takes great pride in working with citizens to make sure the roads are cleaned but also to hold the non-violent inmates who are working the litter crew detail accountable as well."

Cullman County residents who would like to report a road that needs to be cleaned can email trash@cullmansherriff.org.
