CULLMAN – To win a championship is the ultimate goal of most any athlete. State championships are the coveted prize of high school sports. However, most people never even reach the state championship game, let alone come away with the trophy.

The Cullman Girls Under-11 Club soccer team won the U11 state championship last weekend in Decatur, Ala. Winning the state championship in the first year of their existence, the girls of Cullman Soccer have set a high bar for those that follow after them.

But, Coach Jacob Brown isn’t intimidated. “We are very excited about the future,” Brown said.

The Cullman girls dominated their competition, winning all four games to clinch the Division 2 championship.

On their way to the top of the division, Cullman Girls vanquished teams from Decatur, Huntsville, Homewood and Vestavia. Brown said, “[I’m] very proud of what the girls accomplished in their first year of club ball.”

The club isn’t wasting any time, however, as it will be joining the Birmingham United Soccer Association this fall.  Coach Brown is encouraging anyone interested in playing for the team to participate in tryouts the week of May 18.

Under the leadership of Coach Jacob Brown, and the winning ways set in place by this inaugural squad, Cullman could become a powerhouse in girls soccer in the upcoming years. For more information on how to register, visit CullmanSoccer.org.
