JONES CHAPEL – The inaugural Jones Chapel Merry Market Craft and Vendor Fair took place at the Jones Chapel Community Center and  Volunteer Fire Department on Saturday, with more than 40 vendors featuring everything from woodcrafts and homemade jewelry to baked goods, quilts, knitted items and more.

Organizer Christie Thomas, owner of local business Christie’s Heart, said she originally planned the event for friends and family at her home.

“The community was so excited about it,” said Thomas. “It blew up."

More than 800 people marked “interested” or “going” on the event’s Facebook page, with some wanting Thomas to make this new event an annual thing.

“The community is so supportive,” Thomas said with a smile. “I wanted to do something to highlight the community. They’re all so excited about it, so I love that.”

Kids who visited the event got a special treat. Not only was there a kids’ craft area, but the big man, Santa Claus himself, showed up to pose for photos.
