CULLMAN – The Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child shoebox ministry is once again in full swing, gathering packages of Christmas joy for children in more than 160 countries around the world, including poverty-stricken areas of the United States.  Although drop-off points have been receiving packages for days now, there’s still time for you to get involved.

On Thursday, volunteers were busy at Northbrook Baptist Church, one of the area’s three drop-off points, processing and crating more than 600 shoeboxes that were waiting for them when they arrived around lunchtime.  As of 2 p.m. Thursday, Northbrook had received 1,835 boxes. The church hopes to hit the 4,000 mark by the close of drop-offs Monday morning. After that, the crated packages will be shipped to a warehouse in Atlanta where volunteers–including some from the Cullman area–will process and prepare them for shipment and delivery.  The North Alabama Area Team for Operation Christmas Child hopes to contribute 52,100 shoeboxes to the program’s international goal of 11 million.
