GOOD HOPE – The Good Hope City Council on Monday night voted to increase the City’s sewer rates.
Mayor Jerry Bartlett said, “The average customer will likely see an increase of just $1 as a result of the new rates.”
Monday was the second reading of the new ordinance, and those present voted in favor of the new rate plan.
According to Ordinance No. 020-2018, the new rates for residential customers are $11.23 for the first 3,000 gallons of water and $3.21 per 1,000 gallons from 3,000 up to 10,000 gallons.
New rates for businesses are $38.49 for the first 3,000 gallons of water, $6.41 per 1,000 gallons from 3,000 up to 10,000 gallons, $5.78 per 1,000 gallons from 10,000 up to 15,000 gallons and $5.25 per 1,000 gallons for all over 15,000 gallons.
In other business, the council reversed its decision to sell a 4 wheeler it had listed as surplus. After a new tank of gas and battery, it was determined that the vehicle was in good condition. The mayor ordered a spreader, and the vehicle will be used with the spreader to treat the ball fields and parks with fertilizer and ant killer, as well as other needs.
The council also discussed plans for Halloween. As a community event, Bartlett suggested encouraging kids to come by city hall after school on the 31st between 3-4:30 p.m. for candy. Pictures will be taken and placed on Facebook to allow community members to vote in costume contests. More details will be worked out and announced soon.
