GOOD HOPE – Good Hope Fire and Rescue will be getting some new equipment, thanks to the Good Hope City Council.

At its meeting Monday evening, the council presented Assistant Chief Jamie Garmon with a check for $15,000.  The funds will go toward radios, which start at $1,500 each, helmets, gloves and other equipment for the department.

Resident Linda Johnson, whose daughter runs track at Good Hope High School, raised concerns, during the public comments portion of the meeting, about the school’s track. Johnson cited slickness of the track during inclement weather, the need for the sand pits to be refurbished and for new equipment. Good Hope High is set to host a county track meet this year as well. Mayor Jerry Bartlett asked for figures regarding the funding needed for the track and team to further consider the issue.

Bartlett invited members of the council to the groundbreaking for AGCOR Steel on Sept. 5 at 9 a.m. AGCOR will be the first industrial manufacturer in Good Hope and Kenneth Boswell, director of the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA), is expected to be in attendance.

During his report on streets, Councilman Maxie Jones made the council aware of calls he has received from citizens expressing their dissatisfaction with Reid Road. The road had recently been microsurfaced. Bartlett said he would go with Jones to look at the road and determine what to do next.

Grady Parsons, with Living Water Services, discussed with the council the results of a video inspection of sewer pipes on Willow Springs Drive. Parsons revealed that the inspection had revealed an obstruction, but the issue was not as bad as originally feared.

Eric Robertson, the new deputy for Good Hope, was introduced to the council at the meeting.

Good Hope’s next city council meeting will be Sept. 10 at 6:30 p.m. at Good Hope City Hall. The public is invited to attend.
