HOLLY POND – Five people were injured in a two-vehicle crash in Holly Pond Friday night. The incident happened at the intersection of U.S. Highway 278 and Alabama Highway 91 at approximately 6:30 when a 2007 Toyota Prius hit a 2017 Ford.

Alabama State Troopers said the Toyota was occupied by three minors, all of which were wearing their seatbelts. Identities were not released.

The Ford was occupied by James Hamilton, 71, and Julie Hamilton, 42, both of whom were also wearing seatbelts.

All five individuals were transported to area hospitals to receive treatment for their injuries.

Multiple witnesses claimed the Prius was being pursued by the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office prior to the crash.

A spokesman for the CCSO said Saturday, “(A) deputy pulled them over and then they (the Prius) pulled off. The deputy ended the pursuit before they got into Holly Pond because of heavy traffic due to the football game, but the suspect continued on anyway and ultimately wrecked.”
