CULLMAN – Everyone has a favorite tabletop game, whether it’s Monopoly, Risk, or maybe even Trivial Pursuit. There are, however, a plethora of fun and challenging games to play that many may not even be aware of. Tabletop games have made a comeback over recent years, and now there is a whole day dedicated to them. Tabletop gamers can celebrate International Tabletop Day in Cullman on April 11.

Leslie Sanders, who helps organize the event with her brother Boomer Barr, explained how this day got started and why it is such a sensation.

“International Tabletop Day is an event created by Wil Wheaton as a celebration for all the fans of tabletop gaming,” said Sanders. “It is a single day where the whole world is brought together in a common purpose of spending time together and having fun. We're just providing a local place to gather people together in order to introduce many to the wide world of tabletop games.”

Indeed, it is a wide array, and Sanders stated that their library has several varieties of games for every taste.

“There are games for all types of players,” Sanders said. “We have strategy, action, adventure, war games, cooperative, dice and cards. We have a huge library of games to choose from but guests are welcome to bring their own favorites to find someone to play with. Due to the age restrictions on most of our games, we are asking that children 10 and under be accompanied by an adult.”

This free event will take place at the Comfort Inn Suites located on Highway 157 on April 11. Gamers are welcome to drop in throughout the day from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

“Our favorite part of the day and games are one in the same, fun memories,” said Sanders. “You'll laugh at and with each other as everyone tries their best to win, whether it's you against them, or everyone against the game. You get to build strong friendships, great memories and a few fantastic inside stories that’ll always make you smile.”
