HANCEVILLE – The City of Hanceville will hold its annual Kids' Night Out to celebrate the start of the new school year on Friday, August 3, beginning at 6 p.m. at C.W. Day Park. The celebration is completely free. Though most attractions will close around 8 p.m., the party won't stop there. This year, Hanceville is adding a new feature to the festival: fireworks. The fireworks will be set off after 8:30 p.m.
Kids’ Night Out will feature inflatables, a fishing game set up by the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, a mechanical bull, the city's public pool, and a show of first responder vehicles. Hungry guests can fill up on chicken sandwiches, hot dogs, pizza, cotton candy or ice cream, while Hanceville students can take turns trying to dunk their principal in a dunk tank. The Alabama National Guard will also have its rock-climbing wall up for visitors who are at least 16 years old, while the City will have its own rock-climbing wall up for all ages.
Michele Allen, event coordinator, said this will be the 10th year for the festival. She took the time to thank each sponsor.
"Every year we raise money to buy school supplies for Hanceville Elementary and without our sponsors this would not be possible. Those sponsors include American Proteins, Our Lady of the Angels Monastery, Ortiz Concrete, Pitts Grocery, Met-South, Merchants Bank, Bailey Rentals, Sharp Communications, Hanceville Nursing Home, Dean Restaurants, Cabin Fever, Advanced Rotors Inc., Smith’s Body Shop, Kennedy Galvanizing, LP, B&D Electric, Mullins Body Shop and Hanceville Drug Company. This year we were able to purchase over $4,000 worth of supplies, along with the donations received from our businesses and churches in the area. We are very thankful for those who help us make this happen year after year."
