CULLMAN – Last week, the board of directors of Cullman Christian School (CCS) announced the hiring of Joshua (Josh) Swindall as principal, effective July 31, 2018.
CCS posted on its Facebook page: “Cullman Christian School is praising God for our new Principal. Josh Swindall holds a master's degree in education administration. He is soon to complete his doctorate in education from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He is experienced as a mathematics teacher, prior to going into school administration. He and his family attend Crosshaven Church, where he serves as the youth minister. Mr. Swindall brings a love of God and children and enthusiasm for Christian worldview training to CCS. We are now set for the future and expect to see God open doors, strengthen our program and add to our numbers under Mr. Swindall's leadership.”
Swindall is currently in Peru on a mission trip but took a few minutes on Friday to communicate with The Tribune online. Look for a full story after his return.
Swindall comes to CCS from Cullman City Schools where he served as the district’s technology and federal programs/CTE coordinator. Prior to that, he served as assistant principal at East and West Elementary Schools and taught mathematics at Cullman Middle School. Before coming to the city system, he taught math at Good Hope High School.
Swindall holds an educational specialist degree and a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and is currently pursuing his doctoral degree in education from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. He and his wife, Ashtin, have three boys—Everett Isaiah, Emmett Josiah and Ellis Haddon; and the couple is expecting another baby (also a boy, according to the proud dad!) in December.
“I am excited to join the staff at Cullman Christian School and thankful for the opportunity to serve as principal. I believe this to be a unique role that God has gifted me in and made me for,” said Swindall.
Swindall wrote about what led him from a public system into private, faith-based education:
“For the past two years, I have been pursuing my doctorate (Ed.D.) from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Through the process, my passions for teaching and leadership have continued to grow in the areas of spiritual formation and educational pedagogy. While I have always sought to teach and lead as both a Christian and an educator, I now sense the Lord's urging to further marry these two passions in the field of Christian education.”
CCS offers pre-K through grade 12 education in a context of faith. It offers traditional courses, along with online electives and AP classes and has a Fast Track partnership with Wallace State Community College.
