CULLMAN – For five years, the Cullman Wellness & Aquatic Center has been entertaining summer swimmers with dive-in movies. Usually the movies shown are friendly for most, if not all, ages. However, the Cullman Parks, Recreation, & Sports Tourism (CP&R) team decided to do something a little different Thursday night, debuting a classic movie for a slightly older audience: “Jaws.”
The change was met with great enthusiasm, with approximately 350 people braving the waters of the outdoor pool.
CP&R Executive Director Nathan Anderson shared, “(It was) by far the best turnout for any dive-in movie. We have a great team. There was a lot of effort that went into making tonight a success and judging by our turnout we couldn’t be more proud. This is all because of our team and the effort they put into it.”
Other big attendance-drawers for CWAC include Member Nights, Twilight Nights on Mondays, and “really any day that’s got pretty weather,” according to Anderson.
There is one more dive-in movie scheduled for this summer. Catch “Finding Nemo” on Thursday, Aug. 2. Gates will open at 6 p.m. and the movie will begin at dark, (8:45-9 p.m.) The event is free for members and $5 for non-members.
For land lovers, the next drive-in movie at Nesmith Park, “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” will be held on July 20 after 8:30 p.m. It is free to attend.
