HANCEVILLE – The Lady Bulldogs fell to West End 10-4 in their Friday afternoon matchup due in large part to a six-run inning from the Lady Patriots in the top of the second.

Jay Hurst got the start on the mound for Hanceville and after holding West End’s bats scoreless in the first, the Lady Patriots brought home six to step out to an early 6-0 lead. The Lady Bulldogs were able to get on the board in the bottom of the third when Cassidy Campbell singled through the infield to bring home Autumn McMichael and cut the lead to 6-1. Hanceville had a chance to cut deeper into the deficit but left the bases loaded to end the inning.

West End added three more runs in the top of the fourth to stretch its lead to 9-1. Hurst made way for Cassidy Campbell on the mound in the fourth and Campbell was able to get out of the inning with no more runs from the Lady Patriots. West End was able to bring in one more run in on an error in the top of the fifth to make it 10-1.

McMichael scored again in the bottom of the fifth on an error by the shortstop that cut the lead to 10-2 with six outs remaining for the Lady Bulldogs. Campbell picked up two strikeouts in the sixth and another in the seventh. Campbell gave up no runs on just one hit in three-and-two-third innings and collected three strikeouts in her time on the mound.

Hanceville was able to get some offense going in the bottom of the seventh, starting with an RBI double from Campbell that brought in Gracie Hudspeth. Hurst added another run on an RBI double off the center field fence that scored Campbell, but the Lady Bulldogs couldn’t get any closer than that and fell, 10-4. Campbell was the standout for Hanceville on the mound and at the plate, finishing two for three with two RBIs.

The Lady Bulldogs will look to polish things up on the offensive and defensive side when they hit the field against Oakman on March 20.
