CULLMAN – Cullman’s own Johnny’s Bar-B-Q was the featured food truck at last Thursday’s Eat On the Street. This delicious taste of home was a hit at the Farmer’s Market.
Josh Wiggins and his father Gary are in charge of Johnny’s food truck. This new adventure began about a year ago, and they’re not stopping.
“It’s kind of become a family thing as far as working together,” stated Wiggins. “We’ve formed a little team for the on the road venture.”
This family team has been on the road with Johnny’s Bar-B-Q since April of last year.
“We originally started with deliveries to offices and hospitals and other places in town,” stated Wiggins. “Then we came upon this trailer and our events were starting to grow in town. This trailer is capable of both delivering and concession type events, as well as catering. It’s really become a multi-purpose vehicle.”
Johnny’s covers a variety of events throughout Cullman such as class reunions, golf tournaments and wedding rehearsals.
“We did Farm Y’all and Rock the South last year, and we’ve got tons of stuff lined up for this summer,” said Wiggins. “We’re doing a car show in Decatur in August, and that’ll be the furthest we’ve traveled so far.”
Food trucks are growing in popularity, and Cullman has jumped right on the bandwagon – er, food truck.
“It’s a popular thing to do, and it’s a great way for Johnny’s to be a bigger part of the community,” said Wiggins.
Johnny’s serves bar-b-q sandwiches, bar-b-q nachos, drinks and banana pudding. All packed with that delicious and unique Johnny’s flavor.
“We try to keep it simple and be true to Johnny’s while bringing it out into the community.”
While Johnny’s has been serving food from a truck for about a year, this was their first time to be featured at Eat on the Street.
“Eat on the Street has been a great event with a lot of room to grow and a fantastic little atmosphere,” Wiggins said.
Be sure to check out Eat on the Street each Tuesday and Thursday at the Farmer’s Market. It’s a great way to enjoy the warm weather and some delicious food.
