HARTSELLE – Hartselle Police Chief Ron Puckett, a career law enforcement officer, announced Wednesday morning his candidacy for Morgan County Sheriff. Puckett will run on the Republican ticket.  Puckett has more than 30 years of experience in law enforcement.

“As a public servant, the office of sheriff belongs to the people of Morgan County and the hard work of all involved should be a point of pride for our community,” Puckett said in a statement to media. “As sheriff, I (will be) committed to creating an environment where the sheriff’s department contributes to the success and positive reputation of Morgan County.”

Puckett said he’s running for sheriff because, “I believe it is time to move beyond distraction and uncertainty to a time of dedicated service. Law enforcement is not a job and is not about titles, it is a calling. A calling to serve. I will continue my life’s service by serving the people of this county with transparency and integrity.”

Puckett has served as chief of the Hartselle Police Department for 12 years. In his career, he has also served as a juvenile probation officer, patrolman and investigator. “This diverse background in law enforcement will be invaluable in executing the duties of sheriff,” he said.

Puckett is a graduate of Athens State University and holds an advanced degree in justice and public safety from Auburn University at Montgomery. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and is a certified chief of police and law enforcement executive.

Puckett and wife Sharon Phillips Puckett have been married for 28 years. They have three children: daughter Elizabeth Puckett Chambers (husband Corey) and sons Bobby and Caleb. The Pucketts are active members of Life Church in Hartselle.
