FALKVILLE – On the last night of November, the Vinemont Eagles and Lady Eagles made the short drive down U.S. Highway 31 to take on Falkville.
It was a fast start for the Blue Devils in the first quarter. In spite of the Devils’ 8-1 run, the Eagles settled in and played their game, hitting their open shots and breaking the Blue Devil press with relative ease. Ending the first, though, the Eagles trailed 11-7.
Vinemont snapped off four quick points to start the second, but Falkville was able to recoup and answer to extend its lead to eight and prompt an Eagle timeout. The Blue Devils were relentless out of the break and finished the quarter strong to establish a 36-20 lead at the half.
Vinemont was solid in the third, spending the entire eight minutes chipping away at the Falkville lead. Thanks to a late three by Katch Johnson, the Eagles were able to shave the deficit by three, 44-33, heading to the fourth and final frame.
The Eagles left everything on the court in the fourth, getting as close as eight, but they were unable to get over the hump and fell to Falkville 56-45.
Falkville 55, Vinemont 20 (Girls)
Falkville and Vinemont used the first three minutes of the girls’ contest feeling each other out. Falkville scored the first two points, but Aside Stanley answered with a 3-point basket to give the Lady Eagles the first and only lead they held on the night. The Lady Blue Devils quickly answered with four straight before Vinemont scored again. This led to a quarter-spanning 23-6 run that resulted in a 17-point lead after one quarter of play.
The Lady Blue Devils kept the heat turned up on the Lady Eagles with a full court press that held Vinemont to just three points in the quarter while Falkville added 10 to take a 33-9 halftime lead.
Out of the halftime break, Falkville kept the press on and its shots dialed in, pushing the lead to 33 and assuring the fourth would be played with a hot clock.
The Lady Blue Devils kept Vinemont at bay in the fourth on their way to the 55-20 victory.
