FAIRVIEW – The Fairview High School Band put on its third annual car, truck and tractor show Saturday at Randall Shedd Community Park, and the community came out to show its support. At the end of the day, the band raised almost $3,000 for new equipment

The park was not only full of car, truck and tractor displays but also fun attractions like food, vendors, corn hole, a rock climbing wall and inflatable bouncy houses for the kids. Cullman Regional provided free health screenings, and local country music favorite Jesse Priest provided live entertainment, along with The Clay Jones Band.

This was the third year band booster Michelle Watwood organized the event, and she was excited to see people come out to help with something she feels desperately needs to be addressed.

“We’ve raised enough money with our past car shows and some other fundraisers to buy the kids all new uniforms. This car show is to raise money that we can use to provide the kids with some all new instruments,” said Watwood. “We have drums that are falling apart, tubas that are in horrible condition, and in fact our beginner band students are having to share a tuba right now, so we’re just trying to raise enough money to buy the kids some new instruments.”

Weather was a factor for last year’s show and in scheduling this year’s event, but Watwood thought the weather turned out well on Saturday.

“We originally scheduled for Oct. 28 and ended up having to reschedule for today because Mother Nature didn’t want to cooperate with us. The weather looks like it’ll be really nice today though, so we just appreciate the community coming out and supporting our band students.”

In all, Watwood said more than 29 cars were show, and there were more than 30 exhibitors.

Participant Shane Rusk’s Chevelle won best-in-show car. Rusk’s tractor also took home the top prize.
