CULLMAN – Brendan Flannery has been hired as the new admissions director for Saint Bernard Prep School, announced Headmaster Dan Baillargeon. The position became available during the first semester of the 2017-18 academic year.
While the position may be new to Flannery, he is very familiar with Saint Bernard Prep School and the resident life at Saint Bernard. After graduating from Franciscan University in Ohio, Flannery became part of a volunteer program known as “Crossroads Pro-Life Walk Across America,” where he met his wife Shannon (Johnson), a 2005 graduate of Saint Bernard Prep.
He moved to Cullman in 2009, where he worked as dorm director during weekends in the boys’ dorm. In December of that same year, he and his wife were married. At the end of the academic year, they moved to Texas, where Flannery began work in the retail industry.
“I am looking forward to representing Saint Bernard,” Flannery said. “This is a great school, which offers students more than just a good academic program. If I had had the opportunity to live in a boarding school during high school years, I would have developed more self-discipline and self-reliance, which would have made the college transition much easier. Having worked in the dorms, I will be able to give a realistic picture of dorm life for students. I believe in this program and how it prepares students for college life and how it equips students academically to achieve whatever they want to do.”
During his first week in office, Flannery met with school ambassadors and was accompanied by Baillargeon and students for a visit to Prince of Peace School in Hoover. Plans are currently being made to visit more schools in the coming weeks, while at the same time organizing for Open House on Nov. 3 and Nov. 5.
Flannery said he looks forward to familiarizing himself with the local community, and moving his family to Cullman. The Flannerys have three children: Evelyn (7), Liam (4) and Eleanor (1).
