CULLMAN – At a breakfast in downtown Cullman’s Top of the Town Wednesday morning, the Cullman Farm-City Committee proclaimed Nov. 17-23 Farm-City Week in Cullman County. Farm-City Week is celebrated each year beginning on the Friday prior to and ending on Thanksgiving Day. The stated purpose of Farm-City Week is “to bring about a better understanding between rural and urban people by increasing their knowledge and appreciation of each other as partners in progress.”
The proclamation was signed by the mayors of Cullman, Colony, Good Hope, Baileyton, Garden City, Fairview and West Point, as well as all three members of the Cullman County Commission. Also in attendance was State Rep. Randall Shedd, R-Fairview, along with representatives of Cullman County Economic Development, the Cullman County Emergency Management Agency, the North Alabama Agriplex, Cullman Regional and other organizations.
Farm-City Committee Chairperson Lynda Hankey opened the breakfast meeting by saying to the political and organizational leaders present, “For the last five years, we’ve been the number one farm city of Alabama, and prior to that, for seven years we were second in the state of Alabama. And we could not do this without the support that you give us, for us to be able to do what we do, and so we’d like to say ‘thank you’ to you for that.”
The theme for Farm-City Week 2017 is “Agriculture: Food for Life.” Committee Vice Chair Bonnie Baty listed events leading up to and including the celebration:
