CULLMAN – Saturday marked the fourth time that Cullman County Parks and Recreation held its annual Bass Fest. Held at Smith Lake Park, the tournament saw just over 200 boats compete.

"I know that the weights were down a little bit from last year and maybe even the previous year, but we hope you had a great time," Cullman County Parks and Recreation director Doug Davenport said to the crowd from the stage Saturday at the weigh-in. "This is our fourth annual tournament and we are learning from scratch how to make it better each year."

Taking home top prize were brothers Jonathan Seaborn and Benjie Seaborn, who reeled in 14.97 pounds worth of keeper fish. That was good enough to earn them the $10,000 payday.

Coming in second were Jaret Wiggins and Kyle Carden with a total weight of 13.52 pounds.

Snagging third were Jeremy Hopper and Gabe Peare he weighed in at 13.40 pounds. The duo also walked away with the $500 Big Fish prize, with a 5.16-pounder.

Kyle Haga and Clay Kent took home fourth place when they weighed in 12.66 pounds of fish.

Rounding out the top five were Ed Willoughby and Barry Johnson with a total weight of 12.03 pounds.

To place in the top five was an impressive feat with 388 participants at this year's event. Something the Smith Lake Park Bass Fest prides itself on is its catch and release policy. All 480 fish caught Saturday were released back into Smith Lake. Not only is this good for the tournament, but it is good for the ecosystem.
