In the race for U.S. Senate between Sen. Luther Strange and Judge Roy Moore, we saw a familiar trend – rural Alabama spoke loud and clear just as rural America spoke loud and clear in the 2016 presidential election.
Rural Alabama is tired of being left behind and so is rural America.
Sen. Strange won only one rural county along with metro counties of Jefferson, Shelby and Madison.
The next election will not be won with Washington TV money. It will be won by seeing the people, seeing rural Alabama and urban Alabama in the country stores and cafes, cow sales, fire departments and fish fries, small town Alabama, school houses and courthouses.
Those of us who live in rural Alabama don’t want it to become metro areas, but we do want quality basic services and infrastructure to enhance our way of life.
I hope future statewide candidates will see rural Alabama and I hope rural Alabama will see statewide candidates in person, not just on TV. I hope they will see the needs of rural Alabama and then let’s work together to solve their problems and solve urban problems as well.
