SPRINGVILLE – The West Point Warriors made easy work of the Springville Tigers Friday night on the road with a 49-7 win.

Starting out the game, West Point won the toss giving Springville the ball first.

West Point scored first, when Hunter Persall took the ball 12 yards into the end zone; a good extra point made it 7-0 with 8:23 left in the first quarter. Springville threw an interception on its next series with 8:01 left. West Point had a turnover on its first play, and Springville recovered the football.

Springville didn’t have any other options with the ball on its next series, but to try its luck at a field goal. The attempt went wide left, and the score stood at 7-0.

With only 38 seconds left in the half, Persall took it all the way up the middle, 75 yards, into the end zone. With the extra point no good, the Warriors took at 13-0 lead into the locker room.

West Point wasted no time in the third, scoring on a handoff, with Persall again trucking down the field, this time for 55 yards, with 6:49 left in the quarter. The 2-point try was no good, and the Warriors went up 19-0.

The Tigers gained some momentum after a huge run in the third, finally getting on the board, 19-7, with 4:22 left in the third. The home team crowd showed some life.

That momentum was taken away when Persall, continuing his monster game, went 65 yards to the 1-yard line, where quarterback Rylan Jones took it to the end zone with 3:08 to go in the third. The score stood at 25-7 after a missed PAT, with West Point leaving little room for Springville to come back.

West Point owned the fourth quarter. Springville had no chance. The Warriors scored again, this time courtesy of Brandon Woods, with 11:11 left and ended that series with a 2-point conversion. The Warriors’ defense went on attack, forcing a safety, putting West Point up 35-7 with 10:17 remaining.

The Warriors scored twice more to end the game. A TD by Jones and good PAT made the score 42-7 with 3:39 to go. Just more than two minutes later, West Point’s Will Brown scored on an interception, and a good PAT made the final 49-7.

West Point will play Corner at home next week.
