CULLMAN COUNTY – Following tips from residents living on County Road 1101, investigators with the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office on Monday arrested registered sex offender Brent Donald Sigala, 44, of West Point and charged him with first-degree theft of property and second-degree theft of property.

Neighbors gave information to the CCSO after several utility trailers were stolen recently in the vicinity of CR 1101. Sigala also drove a vehicle that fit the description of the one seen leaving several residences following the thefts.

On Monday, June 26, investigators were in the area of West Point and Battleground when they saw a vehicle matching the suspect’s pulling a cattle trailer, said a statement from the sheriff’s office.  A traffic stop was conducted, and Sigala was placed under arrest.

“I am proud of the time our investigators and deputies put into this case to arrest this suspect so that he is now in jail and not still in the community stealing from our citizens,” said Sheriff Matt Gentry.

If citizens believe Sigala stole and sold their utility trailers, they are asked to call the CCSO at 256-734-0342 and speak with Investigator Trevor Clemmons.

Sigala is currently being held in the Cullman County Detention Center on a $15,000 bond.

Sigala, then living in Holly Pond, was convicted in Etowah County in 2010 of second-degree sexual abuse after having been charged with subjecting a 12-year-old child to sexual contact. He was sentenced to one year for that crime.
