CULLMAN – Myles Darren McLeroy, a senior at Cullman High School, is one of 60 students across the country to receive the Make an Impact Scholarship from Modern Woodmen of America, a fraternal financial services organization. The award recognizes young Modern Woodmen members who have made a local impact through volunteerism and demonstrated outstanding academic achievement.
“We’re proud to support these exceptional students as they continue their education journey,” said Jill Lain Weaver, fraternal director at Modern Woodmen. “Thanks to their strong volunteer spirit, they’ve made a positive impact in their communities at a young age.”
The scholarship, which will award $1,000 for McLeroy’s college expenses, is targeted to students who support Modern Woodmen’s mission to improve the quality of life in communities nationwide. Winners are selected based in part on their commitment to community service as well as academic performance, leadership experience and educational goals.
McLeroy is the son of Todd and Kathryn McLeroy of Cullman. While in high school, he was president of the Cullman High School Band, secretary of the National Honor Society and a member of the All State Band, and he worked on a missions trip and volunteered to tutor middle school band students. This summer, McLeroy will work as an intern with Bentley Systems, Inc., a global provider of collaborative software solutions, then will matriculate this fall at the University of Alabama, where he will be a member of the Honors College and plans to study management information systems and accounting.
