CULLMAN – The Cullman Electric Cooperative says a planned power outage will affect members served by Bremen and Hanceville substations.

“Cullman Electric Cooperative and the Tennessee Valley Authority have scheduled a planned power outage that will impact a large portion of the co-op’s service area the first weekend in May,” read a press release issued by the Co-op.

According to the Cullman EC, the outage is scheduled to begin Friday night, May 5, at midnight and last for up to five hours. All members served by the Bremen and Hanceville substations will be without power during this time. Some of the communities and areas included in this outage are Arkadelphia, Bremen, Catalina Point, Cold Springs, Colony, Country Mall, Dodge City, Loretto, Center Hill, Garden City, Hanceville, Steppville, Stouts Mountain and White City.

Courtesy calls were made on Friday, April 28 to members who will be affected. Affected members should also receive an additional reminder phone call prior to the event.

The outage is necessary for TVA to perform work at its new switching station in Hanceville, according to the Cullman EC.

“Co-op staff has spent the past several weeks contacting local business and industrial members that will be affected. Some businesses with back-up generators may remain open for business during the planned power outage. Some traffic signals equipped with battery back-up systems will remain on during this time. The Cullman County Sherriff’s Office and the Hanceville Police Department will have additional units on patrol and assisting with traffic control where it is necessary,” read the release.
