OBITUARY: Mary Gladys House

Funeral services for Mary Gladys House, Age 92, of Vinemont, formerly of New Orleans will be 2 p.m. Monday, January 12th at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Hanceville. Father John O”Donnell will officiate.

Burial will be in Holly Pond Cemetery. Holly Pond Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Miss House was born in Cullman Co., Al. to Edward Guy & Nellie Cornelia Hassell House. They moved to Akron, Ohio when she was a child. During World War II she joined the U. S. Army and served in Wales, London and Germany. Upon returning home she returned to Alabama and attended Sacred Heart College in Cullman, receiving her Associates degree. She then moved to Kansas and continued her education at Benedictine College and earned a Bachelor's degree in Social Work.

Ms. House worked for the State of Ohio as a medical social worker until 1960. Her life's journey took her to New Orleans where she attended Tulane University receiving her Masters Degree in Social work. After finishing school, she went to work for the American Red Cross as a social worker.

In 2005 she moved back to Alabama to be near family and old friends when her home was destroyed by Katrina. Miss House is predeceased by her parents and survived by several cousins and a host of friends. The family request donations be made to American Red Cross or Sacred Heart Monastery in lieu of flowers.
