SCOTTSBORO – Wallace State’s Brandon Lacasse and Chip Willoughby earned All-Tournament recognition as the Lions finished third at the Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC)/Region 22 Championship on Tuesday at Goose Pond Colony in Scottsboro.
Lacasse finished the tournament with a 1-under par 215, putting him in a three-way tie for second place with Calhoun’s Jack Simms and Central Alabama’s Carl Reynolds.
Lacasse, who hails from Chateauguay, Quebec, carded a 68 during the second round, the top mark among the field over those 18 holes. He carded a 72-68-75 over the 54-hole event.
Willoughby placed fifth to earn All-Tournament honors. The Albertville native shot a 1-over 217 (72-72-73) less than a month after finishing runner-up individually at the Glenlakes Invitational in Foley.
As a club, Wallace State shot a 22-over par 886. The Lions opened Monday’s first round with a 298 and followed it with a 290 over the next 18 holes. Wallace State closed the tournament with another 298 on Tuesday.
Central Alabama won the tournament with a 5-over 869. Calhoun, which is playing its inaugural season, finished runner-up with an 11-over 875.
Wallace State was seeking a fourth straight conference title. The Lions have won 13 ACCC championships under NJCAA Hall of Fame coach Dan York.
Wallace State’s Thomas Gevas placed ninth with a 7-over 223 (76-73-74). Brent Borden (233) and Luke Wilson (239) rounded out the tournament field for the Lions.
Central Alabama’s Sam Goldasich was the individual low medalist, finishing with a 4-under 212.
Wallace State continues postseason play on April 23-25 at the NJCAA District 4 Championship in Brewton, where the Lions will look to qualify for another national tournament.
