BUG TUSSLE – A Bremen man is behind bars after being arrested on Saturday and charged with trafficking in methamphetamine, attempting to elude, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and first-degree theft of property.
Events leading up to the arrest of Robert Calvin Mullins, 33, unfolded after a Cullman County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) deputy, patrolling U.S. Highway 91 in Bug Tussle, observed a gray motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed.
The deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the motorcycle, but the driver, Mullins, allegedly fled. Authorities say that after a brief chase, Mullins wrecked the motorcycle near County Road 18 and hid in the woods. CCSO K-9 Deputy AJ was brought in and tracked down Mullins.
Deputies allegedly seized 111 grams (3.9 ounces) of methamphetamine from Mullins.
“It’s good this guy is in jail because that is a large amount of meth that was taken off the streets and won’t be distributed around our county,” said Sheriff Matt Gentry. “I would like to commend the patrol deputies and the K-9 tracking team for the outstanding job they did catching this suspect. This is an example of proactive drug enforcement by our patrol deputies on top of their many responsibilities as a deputy sheriff.”
Mullins is being held in the Cullman County Detention Center on a $1 million bond.
