GOOD HOPE – Potential weather issues had the Cullman County Baseball Tournament go on a revised schedule for Wednesday and Thursday. However, a wet Tuesday forced the tournament to go back to a Thursday schedule and to be completed on Friday. This year's tournament will be played at Good Hope High School.

Coach Mitch Witcher and his staff would not be able to get the field ready in time for three games to be played Wednesday in the quarterfinal round, due to lack of dry time with the ball park being soaked from Tuesday's steady rainfall.

Now the tournament will be played on Thursday as it was originally scheduled with Good Hope and Cold Springs to play at 1 p.m., followed by Vinemont vs. Hanceville at 3 p.m. and Fairview vs. Holly Pond at 5 p.m.

West Point is the No. 1 seed after winning the title last year at Fairview.

Fairview is seeded second, followed by Hanceville as the third seed, Good Hope the fourth seed, Cold Springs no. 5, Vinemont no. 6 and Holly Pond the seventh seed.

West Point will play the Good Hope-Cold Springs winner at 1 p.m. Friday with the winner of the Hanceville-Vinemont game to meet the Fairview-Holly Pond winner in a semifinal at 3 p.m.

The semifinal winners will turn around and play for the county championship at approximately 5 p.m.

Tournament officials are hoping to get the event completed by Friday, with the current forecast calling for morning showers, a 50 percent chance of rain and the high in the upper 60s.

Conditions for Thursday are to be ideal with sunny skies and afternoon temps in the mid 70s.

Weather issues have affected the tournament in the past. The 2015 event never got played due to cold and wet weather for early March with an unsuccessful attempt to make it up, in between the start of area games for each participant.

The weather was cooperative in early March of 2016 as the event went on schedule without losing a day to the weather.
