COLONY – The Town of Colony has a new ride. According to Town Clerk Patricia Ponder, Sheriff Matt Gentry and the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) recently donated a surplus 2009 Dodge Durango SUV to Colony. Mayor Donnis Leeth says the SUV will be marked with the town seal (shown in photo) and will be a general-purpose vehicle for town use.
Colony’s town council met on Tuesday evening, with Leeth and all council members in attendance.
Councilwoman Margaret Jamelle Dimbo (Finance Committee) reported that the budget is still being prepared, and should be ready for submission to the full council at the next meeting on Feb. 14.
Discussion of the purchase of new flag poles was tabled, to give Councilman Curtis Johnson (Parks and Recreation Committee) time to get more prices.
Councilwoman Myra Twitty (Utilities Committee) reported that a PALS (People Against a Littered State) clean-up day has been scheduled for Saturday, Apr. 22, with a make-up day on Apr. 29 in case of rain.
Councilman Julian Fields (Roads Committee) shared that he is working on getting some roads in the town paved.
New council members were reminded of the requirement to file their reports with the County Probate Judge's office, and of the upcoming deadline for doing so.
Leeth concluded the meeting by extending thanks to Gentry and the CCSO for their gift to the town.
The Colony Town Council meets the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. at Colony Town Hall. The public is invited to attend.
