Obituary: H. D. (Pete) Harris

H. D. (Pete) Harris born 1/2/1935 and passed away 1/23/2017 was preceded in death by parents: George and Betty Harris; infant sister: Barbara Ann Harris; wife: Glenda Waters Harris; and grandson: Jacob Ross Harris.

Survived by son and daughter-in-law: Doug and Becky Harris.

He was co-owner of Cullman Surveying Company, but his love was music. He was a recorded musician and songwriter and played with the Southmen and Statesmen Gospel Quartets.

He was a longtime member of Northside Baptist Church and active member of the community serving on the Cullman Housing Authority board and Cullman Park and Recreation board.

He was an avid supporter of Wallace State softball, helping to design and layout the softball field and spent many days of his retirement helping maintain the field.

He was honored in 2013 by having the field named Pete Harris Softball Field.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Comfort Care Home Health and Comfort Care Hospice caregivers for the compassionate and wonderful care provided during his illness.

Visitation for Mr. Harris will be Tuesday, January 24, from 5 – 7 pm with a graveside service on Wednesday at Cullman City Cemetery at 1 pm. Rev. Don Froehlich will be officiating.
