CULLMAN – The victim in last Thursday night's stabbing at Dripping Springs Apartments in Cullman is still in the intensive care unit of Huntsville Hospital, although authorities report that his condition is improving.

Jimmy Lee Young, 44, of Falkville was airlifted to Huntsville after allegedly being stabbed by Roger Dale Hines, 57, of Cullman.

According to Cullman City Police (CPD) Lt. Gene Bates, who is handling the case, Young was able on Monday to give his account of what happened Thursday night.

"He was sitting up in his bed, and he was able to talk," said Bates. "I don't feel like we're out of the woods yet, but he is improving a little every day."

Bates says that the CPD is still trying to determine what caused the altercation, which happened during a party in which everyone was allegedly impaired.

"We have gone back and we have started re-interviewing witnesses. We have had a couple of new witnesses come forward, and they've been able to shed some light on exactly what occurred that night," said Bates, who says these two new witnesses were not impaired.

"We know what happened, we're just trying to figure out why it happened," Bates said.

The suspect, Hines, was arrested that same night and charged with second-degree assault.

Persons with information about this crime are asked to contact Bates at 256-775-7144.
