A graveside service with military honors for Junior Homer Sullins, 88, of Pekin, Illinois will be held Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Hopewell Cemetery; Rev. Trueman Davis officiating.
There will be no visitation.
Mr. Sullins passed away on Tuesday January 10, 2017 at his home in Pekin.
He was born January 18, 1928 in Hanceville to Joshua Homer and Katie Bauer Sullins and is preceded in death by his parents; two sons; one daughter; two brothers; and three sisters. Survivors include his wife Hazel D. Jackson, whom he married on August 28, 1947 in Hanceville; two daughters, Margaret J. Frantz of Morton and Annette (Dave) Abbott of Bellaire, Michigan; one son, Michael (Brenda) Sullins of Decatur; eight grandchildren; many great grandchildren; one great great grandson; two brothers, Earnie Sullins and Franklin Sullins, both of Hanceville; and three sisters: Ethelene Powell, Imogene Pennington and Louise Evans, all of Hanceville.
Junior was a member of Faith Baptist Church. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II and later had the opportunity to participate in the Land of Lincoln Honor Flight. He worked for Caterpillar, Inc. as a machinist for 31 years, retiring in 1985. Junior and Hazel later worked for the Army Corps of Engineers for seven years in Atlanta, Georgia.
He was an avid fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide college football team. He loved camping and loved his church. He enjoyed teasing anyone, but especially the girls at Walgreen’s on Broadway and Kroger’s in Pekin. He also liked working in his garden.
