COLD SPRINGS – Home court advantage for the Cold Springs Lady Eagles didn't last long in the Cullman County Middle School Basketball Tournament Monday night.

The No. 4 seed Lady Eagles were eliminated in the quarterfinal round by 5th seed West Point 33-24. West Point came from behind at halftime with a 20-8 run in the second half to move on to the semifinal round.

This was the only surprise of the evening. All other high seeds came out on top. No. 1 seed and undefeated Good Hope breezed by Vinemont 46-10, No. 3 seed Fairview romped past Parkside 37-11 and 2nd seed Holly Pond held off Hanceville 32-25.

Molly Pendley scored eight of her team high 11 points in the second half, hitting a couple of 3-pointers and a field goal. A trey in the fourth capped off a 5-0 start to the quarter and a 29-21 lead in which Cold Springs couldn't come back from.

A 22-4 lead after the first period was what the No. 1 seed needed in having control of this quarterfinal game. Kelly Pickett, Kylon Hembree and Miriam Oldcare each scored six in the frame thanks to up-tempo play and an aggressive full court press.

The Lady Raiders led 34-5 at the break and 44-8 at the end of the third.

Pickett tossed in 13 for the winners with Miriam Oldacre and her sister Micah scoring 10, Hembree finishing with seven and Chrissi Smith six.

Samantha Millwood's three led the Vinemont scoring.

Fairview 37, Parkside 11:

Guard Payton Golden shot well early with 10 points by the break. Two field goals were treys to propell Fairview to a 22-2 lead at the half, controlling the second period on an 8-0 run.

Golden finished the game with 14 points, scoring twice in the third and watching her team finish off the Lady Panthers in the final 6:00 on the sidelines.

Holly Pond 32, Hanceville 25:

Hanceville did what it could to keep it close in a quest to upset the No. 2 seed Lady Broncos.

Late in the third, a field goal from Malia Howell had the Lady Bulldogs in striking distance, trailing 20-15. But Holly Pond's Kara Hollis hit her first shot of the night before time expired and the Lady Broncos regained momentum with a 22-15 spread.

Elizabeth Miller had two field goals in the fourth period to end the quarterfinal with 15 points for Holly Pond. Kirsten Campbell scored nine with Hollis getting four and Maddie Heatherly and Sydney Duncan two each.
