HANCEVILLE – The Hanceville City Council held a regular meeting recently to welcome returning and new appointees to various commissions and boards.

The following appointments were made by the council:

  • Joann Walls was appointed for a three-year term to the Historical Preservation Commission.
  • Eddie Burkart was reappointed to a three-year term on the Zoning Board of Adjustments.
  • Jim Sawyer was reappointed to a four-year term on the City Planning Commission.

Kenneth Nail made three official mayoral appointments as well:

  • Albert Huffman was appointed to the City Planning Commission for a four-year term.
  • Gwen Headrick was appointed to the Housing Authority for a five-year term.
  • Kerry Gamble was appointed to the Housing Authority for a five-year term.

Hanceville Fire Chief Roger Green reminded the council, “We’re still under a no burn order.” The order is in place until further notice while the area is still in drought conditions.

Council member Charles Wilson addressed the council about the condition of the local Veterans Wall. Wilson says he wants to see urgent repairs done to the Veterans Wall while the water level is as low as it is.

“If we secure that wall, it’ll stay stable for many years to come… it would be nice to get it fixed before it falls,” commented Wilson.

On Dec. 3, the city will host its Christmas parade, starting at noon and lasting through 2 p.m. Pictures with Santa Claus can be taken at the Fire Station; however, the superheroes will be unable to attend this year. There will be no charge to take pictures with Santa Claus this year.

On Dec. 9, at 6 p.m., the City of Hanceville will have an employee Christmas party at the civic center; anyone affiliated with the city (board members, commission members, etc.) is welcome to attend. The council would like for guests to bring a covered dish.

The next council meeting will be held on Dec. 8 at 6:30 p.m. at Hanceville City Hall. The meeting will be open to the public.
