The stalled frontal boundary across Arkansas and Tennessee may move close enough to initiate isolated to scattered thunderstorms this afternoon north of a Hamilton – Huntsville line. If so, hail and wind gusts from 40-60 mph would be the main threats. However, there remains equal chances the front remains stationary with no storm development today in northwest Alabama.

Otherwise, conditions will remain dry through Saturday morning. High temperatures today through Saturday will be very warm with readings in the middle 80 to around 90 each day.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms may develop mid to late Saturday afternoon west of I-65.  If so, there is severe weather potential and a couple of storms could produce wind gusts from 40-60 mph and hail.  In addition, non-thunderstorm winds will be on the increase Saturday with statewide gusts from 25-35 mph by afternoon and continuing until Sunday morning.

The frontal boundary finally begins to move southward Saturday evening with widespread showers and thunderstorms Saturday night into Sunday. There is the potential for all modes of severe weather beginning in northwestern Alabama after 12 am Sunday and continuing across the southern half of the state through the afternoon.

There is a question as to whether the frontal boundary will push through the state with rain ending in the southern portions Sunday evening or begins to slow its progress Sunday afternoon. If the front slows, rain and thunderstorms could continue across south Alabama Sunday night into Monday morning.
