CULLMAN – On Nov. 17, the Cullman Area Chamber of Commerce welcomed another new business to the fast-growing business and retail district near the Highway 157/I-65 interchange. Owners Pam and Steve Baswell cut the ribbon in front of Pack, Ship & More at 1950 St. Joseph Drive NW, Suite A, near the new Wal-Mart.
The Baswells and their staff provide mail and shipping services, along with other office and business services, including:
- Packing and shipping via USPS, Fedex and DHL
- Mailing and faxing
- Scanning, imaging, copying and printing
- Passport photos
- Business cards
- Mailbox rentals
- Key cutting
- Onsite computer rental with high-speed internet
- Common office supplies
- Public Notary service
Pam Baswell said, "We do everything they do at the post office, and more."
She added a couple of special services they offer, that set them apart from some others. The store rents mailboxes with street addresses, allowing box holders to receive packages that cannot normally be shipped to a regular P.O. box. For the upcoming holiday season, Pack, Ship & More also offers a place to which people can divert the delivery of Christmas packages. This service is also available for those traveling, keeping valuable merchandise and mail from piling up at homes.
Steve Baswell grew up in Cullman, graduating from Cullman High School in 1974. The couple has lived away, but returned to the Cullman area six years ago. Looking for business opportunities, they saw the development taking place along Highway 157 on Cullman's north side.
"We knew it was growing on this side of town, and we thought it would be a good place for a business," said Pam Baswell.
And she's right. According to the Chamber's Jordan Stricklin, more than 10 businesses have started up or relocated to the neighborhood around the new Wal-Mart within the last six months, adding to a number of businesses already operating around the highway/interstate interchange, making it the fastest developing business/retail district in the county.
While Pack, Ship & More just held its ribbon-cutting, the store has actually been open since mid-September. Pam Baswell says business has been good, and she hopes that the upcoming Christmas season will give them a strong finish to their first full quarter.
She noted that one of the surest signs of a successful business has already appeared in their store: "We're starting to see repeat customers."
