Cullman High Cheer Team takes 6A state title in AHSAA state championship cheer competition

HANCEVILLE – Cullman High School made quite an impact in Class 6A of the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) state championship cheer competition Saturday at Wallace State's Tom Drake Coliseum. The CHS Cheer Team beat out the competition to win the 2016 6A state title.

Cullman operated under guidelines of the AHSAA and the National Federation of High Schools Spirit Rules and Regulations regarding back-flip moves, tumbling, tumbling with pom poms, etc.

Members of the championship team are: Lacie Bartlett, Madison Bates, Sarah Brock, Jayla Crawford, Megan Flynt, Kacie Griffith, Emily Little, Hannah Lowery, Abby Mayhair, Kyleigh Robinson, Ansley Tapscott, Ashley Grace Uphold, Abbie Wallace, Shelby Weir and Kennedy Witcher.

The mascots are Tori Swafford and Jade Stanford.

Erica Ball is the head coach for the varsity team with Stacie Owen in command of the junior varsity and Jared Hanson serving as the competition cheer assistant.

Plenty of celebration took place following the awards ceremony Saturday afternoon with Cullman High School Principal Kim Hall expressing congratulations to the team through social media.

This is Cullman's first state title for the new season in Alabama High School Athletics. The Bearcats were state champions in the spring in boys’ soccer and runners-up in baseball.
