CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman Christkindlmarkt, aimed at celebrating the area’s German heritage in a fun, family friendly Hallmark atmosphere, has officially closed for the 2024 season. It opened Nov. 21 and closed Dec. 23. Organizers said the market was an even bigger hit this year, staying open a bit longer and doubling in size with more vendors and more attractions. It may expand even more in 2025 to accommodate the crowds.
“Christkindlmarkt last year versus this year has more than doubled in size. We were able to get a grant, and it helped us to frame some of the cost,” said Cullman Mayor Woody Jacobs. “We have been able to add a lot more booths and a lot more space because it was crowded last year. We just didn’t realize that many more people were going to come. It is crowded again this year!”
Cullman Parks, Recreation & Sports Tourism Executive Director Nathan Anderson spoke about the popular attractions at this year’s market.
“We have something for everyone. The ice-skating rink is the largest in the state of Alabama. The Ferris wheel is also the largest in the state of Alabama. It can hold up to 144 people at a time. A family of six can sit together in one gondola. Who has seen Cullman from that height unless you are in a helicopter?” he smiled. “The spinner Christmas tree in the back is for the toddlers. We have a Winterbahn, which is a tubing slide. The Kinderplatz is like stepping into the North Pole. You have Saint Nicolas, Mrs. Claus and Buddy the Elf. You can write letters to Santa, do crafts in the workshop, and get your picture made with Santa.”
