CULLMAN, Ala. – First Presbyterian Church of Cullman on Wednesday, Dec. 18, from 1 p.m. until boxes are gone, will hand out free food boxes. Each box contains bone-in ham, canned corn, canned green beans, flour, cornmeal, tea bags, macaroni and cheese, Vienna sausages, ramen noodles, broth, rice, dry pinto beans and saltine crackers.
According to the church, you do not have to get out of your vehicle. A box will be brought to your car (LIMIT ONE BOX PER CAR). The church said motorists may line up beside the tent next to the church on Seventh Street. Volunteers will direct traffic.
Missions Elder Nathan Woodard said the free food box event started in November 2020.
“We hope we can be seen as a small church with a big heart for their community following the Matthew 25 guideline of ‘When I was hungry, you gave Me something to eat,’” Woodard said. “’As you have done this unto the least of these, you have done this to Me.’ We want to wish everyone a blessed Christmas and a safe and happy New Year.”
Woodard said the church has received a lot of help from Rev. James Fields, Publix, Warehouse Discount Groceries, Christ Lutheran Church and St. John’s Church (for parking).
The church is located at 615 Third Ave. SE, on the corner of Third Avenue Southeast and Seventh Street Southeast.
Worship services are Sundays at 10:30 a.m. with Faith and Fellowship on Tuesdays at 11:30 a.m. (no Faith and Fellowship on Christmas Eve). The Christmas Eve service begins at 5 p.m.
First Presbyterian Church of Cullman was recognized by the North Alabama Presbytery with the Dove of Peace Award for its food box ministry and the church’s commitment to Matthew 25. The church hands out food boxes three times per year.
