Emily Annette Balcomb, of Baileyton, Alabama, entered the presence of our Lord on Sunday, December 1, 2024, at the age of 70. Mrs. Balcomb was born in Jefferson County, Alabama, on November 2, 1954, to the late Byron Wyatt McNair and Rose Minelle Thomason McNair.
Mrs. Emily was child of God and she and her husband attended Welcome Baptist Church where they worshipped alongside their friends and neighbors. Both Emily and Billy served on the restoration committee at Welcome where they helped to restore and update the church to the beautiful house of worship that it is now.
Emily enjoyed traveling and camping. Some of her favorite travel memories included a trip to Spain. Mrs. Balcomb loved the culture of the country, and she often reminisced about the beauty of Spain and its people.
Mrs. Balcomb enjoyed gardening. She loved flowers and birds. She also enjoyed nature and animals and loved the beauty of God’s handiwork.
Emily was a highly organized person, and she made many to-do lists. Her lists enabled her to accomplish many things. She had a list for everything – including the dreams of things she hoped to accomplish. Mrs. Emily enjoyed the holidays, especially Christmas, and she enjoyed organizing the family gatherings, making certain everything ran smoothly and that nothing was forgotten.
Mrs. Balcomb was a very generous person. She gave to as many charities as she could with the hopes of helping to make life better for those in need. She always thought of others and never of herself. She was a loving wife of almost fifty-two years to her husband, Billy, and was a devoted and loving Mom and Mimi. Emily will be missed greatly.
Mrs. Balcomb is preceded in death by her father, Byron Wyatt McNair.
Those left to cherish Mrs. Balcomb’s memory includes her husband, Billy Ray Balcomb; mother, Rose Minelle McNair; children, William Eric Balcomb, Stuart McNair Balcomb, Jennifer Marie Balcomb Hudson (Cory); grandson, Iain McNair Hudson; and sisters, Ginny, and Gail.

Psalm 91
1 Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
3 Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. 4 He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. 5 You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, 6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. 7 A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. 8 You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked.
9 If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, 10 no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent. 11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; 12 they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. 13 You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent.
14 “Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. 15 He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. 16 With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”
